As an Internet marketer, you can either sell information products or physical products, whether they're your own or other people.

I would argue that information marketing is more profitable for your online business.

The reason is simple.

The Internet is a vast information highway where people go online to search for information. And if it is something they are interested in, they will look for all kinds of information related to their interest, like how to guides and shopping comparison reviews.

But isn't there already a lot of free information on the Internet? While that may be true, much of the information online is not well presented or organized.

Information = value

Information that is well-organized to target the needs of its reader will beat free information any day.

Web surfers may not have the time or don't want to put in too much effort to search for the information they need. Or they may require the information immediately and can't afford to waste any time in searching for it.

Anything you have to pay for will always seem to have more value than something you can get for free. So if you package information into a product, people will believe that the information inside is more comprehensive and of a higher quality than what can be easily obtained outside.

And then there are the hungry niches where people are more than willing to spend on their passion. They'll keep buying information that will help them learn more about their interest.

Marketing of information vs physical products

Compare information marketing with the selling of physical products and the benefits are even clearer.

For one, the costs of creating an information product is much lower than the costs of creating a physical product. You don't need massive investments in machinery, land or manpower. All you need to pay for is the domain, hosting and any tools and resources you require.

These can be negligible compared to the costs of creating a physical product.

Then there are the costs of keeping stocks in warehouses. Carrying inventory not only requires a lot of capital, but can be risky if the demand for your stock doesn't pan out.

When you sell information, there is no physical stock to maintain. Customers who buy an information product from you just need to download the product over the Internet. No shipping and delivery are required.

Even if your customer were to ask for a physical copy, it can be easily outsourced to an outside contractor to produce. The difference is that in this instance, the physical product is created and delivered only when there is an actual demand for it.

The bottom line? The lower costs translate to a much higher profit margin for you.

Another immense advantage of selling information is that it is really easy to replicate. Once you have put in place a plan that's proven to make money, you can just re-use it in any other niche market. And there are tons of niche markets seeking the information you can provide. Find a string of these niches to grow a thriving business online.

Ultimately, people value information and solutions over products. Information is the number one product on the Internet, so what your value is to the marketplace depends on what information you can provide.

To succeed as an Internet marketer, you need to be an information provider rather than a salesman. Focus on truly helping people and providing value and build your online business on information that feeds hungry markets.
