OK, so you have seen the now famous television series Storage Wars and you are curious about the business of storage auctions. Is it really this exciting and this easy to make money you ask? The answer is yes . . . and no. You see television does a great job of editing shows to keep your interest. In order to keep your interest they must elicit an emotional response from the viewer that entices you to stay tuned and prioritize that time for them amongst all the other competing options you may have.

So why do we watch? What is it about bidding on a storage auction that makes for must see TV? Well, unlike other things we watch such as professional sports, we look at an auction and think two things: (1) I could do that and (2) I could do that better than they did. Thus bringing us back to the original two part question, is it exciting and is it easy to make money? Yes, storage auctions can be exciting, there I said it. Aside form the last minute cancelled auctions and the extreme temperatures and crowds it is undeniably a rush for those of you who thrive on the need for action.

Similar to a horse race at its final turn or the game in its final minute, the actual bidding process and the anticipation of winning hidden treasure for pennies on the dollar is exciting. The question you must ask yourself is I am bidding for the excitement or to make money? Of course there is nothing wrong with accomplishing both, but similar to knowing the difference between investing money into a start up business and taking money with you for a weekend in Las Vegas, the expectations need to be thought thru in order to feel good about the results. Personally, if I take money to Las Vegas it is turned into chips and like an all inclusive resort I expect to leave some or all of my money there as a trade off for the excitement I gained by having the ability to gamble 24/7.

However, if I open a business with capital I expect to be able to have a certain return on my investment in order to make it worthwhile. Yes, storage auctions can and will make you money. You must decide and prioritize storage auctions by money or excitement, what is your main driving force? People are driven in life and in business by two powerful forces . . . what we may gain or what we may loose. Put another way according to best selling author Anthony Robbins, "Everything you and I do, we do either out of our need to avoid pain or our desire to pursue pleasure." What does that have to do with storage auctions you may ask? Well my point is this, yes the potential is there to make money and yes the potential is there to experience excitement, just know why you are there before you go. There is no wrong answer, but spending a moment thinking this through will save you a lot of money if you are bidding for the wrong reasons. Storage auctions are plentiful and a way to make serious money if you decide to do so.

So how do I make money by way of storage auctions as a business? Well like any business I suggest you do your homework. Make a business plan and decide how much money and time to invest, what your expected rate of profit will need to be to make it worthwhile and your time frame for achieving these goals. As with other business ventures there is no substitute for experience. Leave your money at home and go to storage auctions as often as you can until you can decide without emotion that this is a business that you wish to pursue. Talk to people at the auctions and learn from there mistakes and be encouraged form there success stories. Find out for yourself why people who have been doing this business for an extended period of time stay and why many of the new bidders come and go.

Yes you can get good advice from articles (and I hope you have) and you can view websites (viewing and feedback is always welcomed ) but please understand the most important thing you can do is to decide. Make a decision to pursue storage auctions, or any business with the right expectations. A business decision is an important step to allocate and commit a certain amount of money, time and energy toward achieving your goals.

So put the computer up, get off the couch and get to a storage auction. I assure you that you will find it interesting and if you stick with it ling enough, the stories that are told of finding hidden treasures worth significant profits will be yours! Best Wishes.
